Julian Nagelsmann to Stay as Germany Head Coach Until 2028

Julian Nagelsmann has signed a contract extension to remain as Germany’s national team head coach through Euro 2028. The decision follows his positive impact since taking charge in September 2023 and Germany’s improved performances at Euro 2024.

Nagelsmann’s Journey with Germany So Far

Nagelsmann, formerly of Bayern Munich, was appointed as Germany’s head coach on a two-and-a-half-year deal after Hansi Flick’s dismissal. Tasked with rejuvenating the team ahead of Euro 2024, Nagelsmann’s leadership saw Germany reach the quarter-finals of the tournament, which they hosted.

The team’s performance, featuring standout contributions from young stars like Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, marked their best showing at a major tournament since Euro 2016, where they reached the semi-finals.

Germany’s Euro 2024 campaign ended in the quarter-finals with a 2-1 extra-time defeat to eventual champions Spain, but the progress under Nagelsmann was evident.

Contract Extension and Future Goals

Initially contracted until just after the 2026 World Cup, Nagelsmann has now committed to leading Germany for an additional two years, taking them through Euro 2028.

Speaking about his extension, Nagelsmann said:

“When I came to the DFB in September 2023, I could not have imagined being a national coach beyond the home Euro. This great feedback that we all receive every day shows us that our journey together is on the right path. We want to win titles together.”

Aiming for Titles

Germany’s qualification for the Nations League finals this year further highlights the team’s progress under Nagelsmann. The coach will now focus on building a squad capable of competing for titles at the 2026 World Cup and Euro 2028.

Conclusion

Julian Nagelsmann’s contract extension reflects the German Football Association’s confidence in his ability to lead the national team to success. With a talented roster and a clear vision for the future, Germany is poised to continue their resurgence on the international stage under Nagelsmann’s guidance.
